Book's flaws are limited to mottling to lavender cloth and shelf-rubbing. Copyright page states 1934 but to date these you have to look at the ads in the back to date the last title. In this copy, the last title in the rear is The Secret at the Hermitage, which is the 5th book in the series, and printed in 1936, despite the copyright page stating 1934. If the DJ is present you can use the same dating technique with the front flap. This DJ's last title is the Circle of Footprints, the sixth book in the series, prnted in 1937, despite the copyright page stating 1934, and the ads in rear dating 1936. This original DJ has 50/50 price in upper left corner. DJ shows soiling, shallow chipping and small closed edge tears.VG-. Dana Girls Mystery Stories #3: In the Shadow of the Tower. 217 pages. A thick book in maroon/ pink cloth-covered boards with embossed black lettering and the magnifying glass and necklace silhouette on the front. The green on cream pictorial endpapers show two girls reading a note The copyright page lists the first three Dana Girls titles , By the Light of the Study Lamp, The Secret at Lone Tree Cottage and In the Shadow of the Tower. Nancy Drew titles are listed to "The Password to Larkspur Lane". Black and white plates illustrated by Ferdinand E. Warren ( all present!). The 3 pages of ads at the rear list the 3 Dana Girls stories, 3 Melody Lane stories and 10 Nancy Drew titles up to Larkspur Lane. There is a previous owner's PENCIL name to the front free endpaper, a tiny rubber date stamp to same and the same tiny date stamp on the half-title( must have been given the date stamp for Christmas!) otherwise a FLAWLESS book , tight with crisp pages, top edge stained green. One of the first of the Dana Girls Mystery Stories.The cover of this vintage purple/pink cloth-covered book is in good condition with a small amount of fraying on the corners, a few light stains from handling and wear, and minor fading and creasing on the spine. It looks like it has been made into a book for someone's personal library with a homemade card pocket and bookplate neatly attached to the back endpapers. The binding is in nice condition with one illustrated book plate that is included but not attached. The fore edge and pages have a few stains from handling with no marks or highlighting.
