Some very slight light spotting to the upper right quadrant of the front panel of the red cloth; a bright, tight and sound copy in a jacket with a chip at the top of the backstrip, removing all of the title lettering, and a diagonal chip at the bottom of the spine removing half of the imprint. Hardy Boys' list of titles at rear includes only 7 titles ending in Secret of the Caves. Final ad in pages at rear is Don Sturdy with 9 titles. This copy was shared among a number of readers; their names and date of reading are penciled to rear endpage, with dates from 1935 - 1938. 2 of the 5 names are girls' names. The binding is a little shaken and there is mild shelf soiling to the board surfaces. Light pulling and rubbing to cloth at spine ends; mild shelf bumping to corners. Prior ownership in large red pencil to front endpage is largely erased but two small ink stamp hand with pointing finger remain. Prior owner has added in faint pencil the number 8 to the spine; light finger and age soiling to page block edges. Sound and decent with light wear from successive readings. VG- . 1929. Pictorial dust jacket, light brown cloth boards with lettering and illustration stamped in dark brown, orange and white pictorial endpapers. The eighth novel in the classic series. An early reprint. The reverse of the jacket, and the flaps, have book lists of juvenile literature published by Grosset. There is a further list of books by James Cody Ferris on the rear panel of the jacket. All books in the series were rewritten between 1959 and 1973 resulting in different stories with the same title. This book has the original story line. The front flap has the first 11 books in the series. The rear flap has 15 Ted Scott flying stories. And, the rear panel has 9 James Ferris stories. A very good copy with some scoring to the deep blue stain on the top edge. The corners and spine ends are bumped. The text is clean and free of markings. The front panel of the jacket appears to have retain the colours. There is moderate wear to the ends of spine and flaps.
